Free scores: Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), Schlummerlied, Schön Hedwig
Robert Schumann, born on June 8, 1810 was a German composer and pianist. He is one of the most famous Romantic composers. His music, more than that of any other composer, reflects the deeply personal nature of Romanticism. Little understood in his lifetime, much of his music is now regarded as daringly original in harmony, rhythm and form. Robert Schumann died on July 29, 1856.
To honour this great composer, Classical Sheet Music republished an early edition (1842) of Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen, also known as Scenes from Childhood, Opus 15 for piano. Träumerei (known as Dreaming, or Reverie) is number seven of this superb collection of short piano scores. It's also one of the most loved - and easy to play - compositions for piano. Download all free piano scores in PDF-format of Scenes from Childhood (19 pages), or download Träumerei first. (More easy sheet music by other composers.)
Kinderszenen was written by Schumann in 1838. The edition of 1842 is one of the few surviving early editions; Classical Sheet Music found the score in 2005 at an antique shop in Western Europe. The old music book was very carefully scanned at 300 dpi in black & white and retouched where necessary. You'll need the free Acrobat PDF Reader to view and print the PDF.
One of the rare scores we came across, is Schön Hedwig Opus 106. It's a beautifully written declamation for voice and piano that can be performed without the vocal part, like Schumann suggested. Schön Hedwig was written in 1849. Download the complete first edition (8 pages) of this wonderful composition, that was published in 1853.
If you like Scenes from Childhood by Robert Schumann, but you play the piano at a higher level, then you might enjoy this popular piano piece by Schumann. Download Schlummerlied Opus 124 No. 16, also known as Slumber Song. Play the free piano score (5 pages) and you'll know why it's so popular. This antique edition is from about 1860.
